WHY YOU DON’T NEED FLAT ABS

Source: Black fitness today

I did a survey recently and one of the questions I asked was “What part of your body would you like to work on the most?”. 70% of people that took the survey answered “abs” and it got me thinking, what is it about abs that makes everyone crave flat abs or 6 pack abs. Yes, flat abs are great to look at, they are sexy as hell too and if I’m being totally honest, I constantly obsess about my abs being flatter too. But are abs a true measure of a person’s fitness or health?

The truth is, you don’t need flat abs to be healthy. Healthy looks different on everyone and depends on the goals YOU want to achieve. I’ve also found that focusing on flat abs alone as a measure of success for fitness often sets a person up for failure when they don’t see the result instantly.

so, instead of focusing on just flat abs and killing yourself by doing only crunches or ab exercises; here are 3 things you can try instead:

1. STOP DOING CRUNCHES

100 crunches a day does not make a fitness routine! Truth is sit-ups are probably the worst form of exercise for a flat tummy, especially when done incorrectly. Furthermore; they put a strain on your back. Instead, try exercises that work the whole body, such as burpees. Pilates-based exercises are great for abs as well.

2. START EATING THE RIGHT KIND OF FOOD

You’ve heard it a million times; abs are made in the kitchen. You can do a thousand crunches a day but if you don’t eat right, your abs will hide under a layer of fat. so clean up your diet; cut down on processed food, refined sugar and alcohol (these foods will help pack on the fat in your abs). Eat more lean proteins, colorful veggies, and good carbs.

3. DITCH CARDIO ONLY ROUTINES; EMBRACE HIIT

Exercise routines focused solely on cardio 1.e jogging/running alone is not the best way to blast fat and increase overall fitness. HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training) is great for blasting fat fast. HIIT keeps your body burning fat even after your exercise session is over. read more about HIIT here.

These simple steps will get you on a way to a more fit you with the flat abs you’ve always wanted.
